Explore Tuscany, Venezia, Umbria in slow travel (Cortona, Firenze “Florence”, Venice, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Bagnoreggio, Pitigliano, Pienza, Spello)

Day 1 (May 28) Tuesday
Depart NYC airport for overnight transatlantic flight to Rome, Italy. Flights from other US and European departure cities can be arranged at time of registration.

Day 2 (May 29) Wednesday
Transfer to La Mucchia Villa Suites in Cortona, Tuscany via private motor coach. Welcome reception & lunch at La Mucchia. Afternoon, visit to Cortona rest/relaxation in your luxury suite or by the pool under the Tuscan sun! Group dinner in typical Tuscan restaurant.

Day 3 (May 30) Thursday
After breakfast, visit to local farmers market in Camucia with Chef Ada to select and purchase ingredients for her noon cooking class with your group. For many years, Ada served as personal chef for Frances Mayes, author of “Under the Tuscan Sun,” as well as for Robert Redford and many other celebrities. Ada, with your help, will prepare a full Tuscan meal to be enjoyed by the entire group. In the evening, our hosts at La Mucchia with serve a light, late dinner featuring music, wine and finger foods around the pool.

Day 4 (May 31) Friday & 2-days in Florence
Pack your overnight bag! After breakfast, get ready to head to Firenze by motor coach for an enjoyable stay in the heart of Florence on the left bank of the Arno River. Hotel check-in and group lunch at TAROCCHI restaurant –same street as hotel) before exploring the city on foot. This first afternoon in the City of Lillies, you will be escorted on a 3-hour walking tour of the major city-centre highlights. Group dinner is included at a typical Florentine restaurant within walking distance of hotel.

Day 5 (June 1) Saturday
After breakfast, cross the Arno to visit one of the most famous museums in the world…the Uffizi Museum of Art. Here you will experience masterpieces by the great Italian artists, Botticelli, Raffaello, Giotto and Michelangelo. The Uffizi’s grand collection dates back to the 12th century. Lunch is on your own at any one of the many cafes or formal restaurants in or near the main piazzas. The rest of your afternoon you are free to explore the shops and streets of Firenze before heading back to Hotel Silla to pick up your bags and board motor coach back to La Mucchia for a group dinner

Day 6 (June 2) Sunday
After breakfast, let’s learn some of the language! Your Italian language tutor will be on-site at the Villa to teach you the basics of Italian…with lots of humor! A light lunch and pastries will be served poolside at the Villa. Your afternoon guided tour of Cortona and surrounding area starts with a visit to the Capuchin Monastery built in 1300, and the private praying cell of Saint Francis; then on to the hilltop to overlook Cortona and visit the Chapel of Santa Marguerita, the saint protector of Cortona; then you will see beautiful “Bramasole,” the original house of Frances Mayes, author of “Under the Tuscan Sun.” Before returning to La Mucchia for dinner, enjoy shopping and people watching in Cortona’s quaint shops and cafés.

Day 7 (June 3) Monday
After breakfast, enjoy an all day guided tour of Umbria visiting Orvieto, the Duomo, and the “dead city” of Bagnoreggio along Bolsena Lake to the town of Pitigliano, called “Little Jerusalem.” Lunch on own in Pitigliano, then resume your tour with stops at the ancient Synagogue, a Kosher winery, and drive through the Orcia Valley on your way back to La Mucchia for a special dinner of typical Israeli/Middle Eastern home cooking!

Day 8 (June 4) Tuesday
After breakfast, travel via private coach for a visit to the beautiful, small village of Pienza where you will have lunch on your own in one of the small cafes or wine shops. Then travel the breathtaking scenic drive to Montepulciano for strolling, browsing, shopping and a group dinner & wine-tasting at one of Montepulciano’s highly recommended restaurants. Late night return to LaMucchia.

Day 9 (June 5) Wednesday
Pack your overnight bag, again! After breakfast head to Venezia via private motor coach for an overnight stay in a typical Venetian hotel. Arrival in Venezia by train from Mestre train station (10 minutes outside city) to the main train station in the centre of Venezia. Hotel check-in and group lunch before you begin your afternoon walking tour with stops at Piazza San Marco, Duomo, Grand Canal and markets. Group dinner at a typical Venetian restaurant before retiring to your hotel for the night.

Day10 (June 6) Thursday
After breakfast in the hotel, you have a free day to explore Venezia and enjoy lunch on your own. Afternoon return to La Mucchia via private motor coach for group dinner.

Day11 (June 7) Friday
After breakfast at La Mucchia, take short ride to Avignonesi Vineyard for a vineyard tour and light lunch. After lunch, take one of the most beautiful drives in Italy on the classically Italian, Tuscany Wine Road. Group dinner…you will enjoy the best pizza in Tuscany!

Day12 (June 8) Saturday
After breakfast, head to Umbria to Trasimeno Lake for a scenic boat ride and group lunch at one of Trasimeno’s delightful lakeside cafes. Return to La Mucchia for rest and relaxation. Group dinner at La Mucchia.

Day13 (June 9) Sunday
After breakfast, free day to relax, pack, or browse/shop our hill top town of Cortona, transportation provided. Lunch on own. “Ciao” dinner party at La Mucchia with wine, music and dancing.

Day 14 (June 10) Monday
Arrivederci La Mucchia, ‘til next time. Early morning transfer via private motor coach to Rome airport for transatlantic flight back to the USA.
