fantastic, excellent place visit and you will not regret. La Mucchia - Casa Vacanza & Art Gallery” is located in the region of Tuscany, an area of great historical and artistic interest. The vacation house is situated at the foot of Cortona, an ancient Etruscan town, founded by the residence of Umbria about 3,000 years ago, even before Rome was established. The house is currently divided into eight suites. It is surrounded by 7,000 sq. meters (roughly two acres) of land used for lawn, garden and other various services. Some of these services include parking, a play area, swimming pool and tennis court.
If you stay in Cortona as your base and you have a car, which makes it easier. You can do day trips to Volterra and San Gimignano, or over to Assisi and Perugia at the same trip ( 40 and 60 km) do not forget to visit the famous Perugina chocolate factory, or Siena (about 60 km) or to Montepulcino, Pienza and Montalcino. Or if you feel like going to Orvieto (80 km) for the day, You could also take the train into Florence (70 min from Camucia station) for the day instead of looking for expensive (and far away from the center) parking in Florence , or head over to Trasimeno lake (15 km) . If you stay at a vacation house outside of Cortona ,which gives you the Tuscan countryside and great views over the Chiana valley, as your base and a small distance from town, it makes your vacation both: relaxing and interesting.
South – East of Tuscany is also a great base for seeing Tuscany and Umbria , Trasimeno lake and Castiglione del lago, Perugia, Deruta and Assisi are all in Umbria, and within a distance of 15-70 km.
Sitting at the panoramic terrace in Piazza Garibaldi in Cortona at sunset:,looking at the spectacular scenery ,drinking wine and trying cold cuts of the Italian salamis and prosciuttos with hot local bread called giaccia, and mixed artichoke salad ,in the small enoteca just on the right side where via Nazionale begins, is a feeling which will not be quickly forgotten.
Southern Tuscany, is the most beautiful part of Tuscany. The Val d’Orcia is amazing and there are so many beautiful villages such as: Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Sarteano, San Casciano dei Bagni and Cetona, those places are not so crowded in September October and in April May.
In Florence you hit the main museums, see the center of the glorious town but spend the rest of your time in the Tuscany countryside. By renting a car and working your way up from your base to some daily excursion and then back, the best is not to stray more then one hour drive away, mainly in the mornings, leaving space to rest and enjoy the surroundings of your preferred place.
The Luxurious farmhouse suites hotel La Mucchia is located outside of Cortona, which is the jewel of Tuscany’s Chiana valley, which is about one hour drive from Florence to the south-east,crossing the most extraordinary views of the Tuscan countryside.
This farmhouse hotel will be the highlight of your vacation to Italy. La Mucchia casa vacanze is a recently renovated 300 year old farmhouse and is located 5 km west of Cortona in the Chiana valley at the foot of the Cortona hills with 360 degree views of vineyards and sunflower fields. It has eight comfortable, wonderful apartments, most have a private balcony or terrace, all are equipped with kitchen, tv sat, internet, each bedroom has its own bathroom, all are furnished in authentic Tuscan style. There is a very nice pool and a terrace to relax, barbecue and play ground for younger children. You will enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the breath-taking views, and the owners/staff always there to help. The location is perfect for exploring Tuscany- it’s a short drive to Camucia for morning cappucino, fresh fruits/vegetables, groceries, and of course, lots of wine. The best steaks and pork chops we’ve ever had can be eaten in small trattorias all over town. On the Thursday open market you should enjoy porchetta sandwiches with the locals. All this and more is enough reason to stay in Tuscany.

Cortona is located in the province of Arezzo,in the Tuscany region ,central Italy. The town is about 10 miles from the border with Umbria, and its magnificent views extend over the green fields and hills of Tuscany and Umbria, extending beyond the large Lake Trasimeno. Cortona is a town which you can use as a base for your relaxing holiday tours. The town is attractive and welcoming, with many inviting bars and restaurants (Trattorias) in the central piazzas, and also museums and churches, art galleries and very good ice cream.
At the foot of Cortona, there is the ValdiChiana valley and about few miles from town there is an old farmhouse, turned into a luxurious suites accommodation, called “La Mucchia casa vacanze”, the name “La Mucchia” was taken from the small torrent which crosses the Chiana valley. The building covers an area of 1,000 sq. meters (10,764 sq. ft) it is located at the foot of the beautiful town of Cortona. It was built in 1760 by a noble family called Fabbri. In 2005, the present owners obtained the house in a state of ruins.
The renovation lasted three years (reminds of Under the Tuscan Sun) and has followed the instructions of the superintendent for Cultural Heritage. According to the old-world design provided by the town of Cortona, all original materials were recovered and used to rebuild the estate. The ultimate goal was to maintain the appearance of its age; at the same time equip it with modern comforts. That is why every apartment is outfitted with internet, a satellite TV multilingual set, A/C, and heating; also each bedroom has its own private bathroom. Particular care was taken to furnish the house in the classic Tuscan style “arte povera”, as well as the old-world style kitchen decorated with hand-painted ceramic tiles. The house is currently divided into eight apartments. It is surrounded by 7,000 sq. meters of land used for lawn, garden and other various services. Some of these services include parking, a play area, swimming pool and soccer court. The old farmhouse has a revival after 300 years of abandons, and it is named : La Mucchia casa vacanze ; Suites farmhouse hotel, in Cortona.
Inside the walls; narrow streets and retreat churches:
“La Mucchia casa vacanza & art gallery” is located in the region of Tuscany, an area of great historical and artistic interest. The vacation house is situated at the foot of Cortona, an ancient Etruscan town, founded by the residence of Umbria about 3,000 years ago, even before Rome was established. Cortona is a constant point of reference for travelers and connoisseurs of art. Here you can admire the paintings of Signorelli, a Renaissance inspirer of the great Michelangelo. His paintings are preserved in the Museum Diocesan and in the Church of St. Nicholas. There are many paintings in the town of Cortona, ranging from the middle ages to the twentieth century. Some of these come from art schools like “Senese” and “Fiorentino”, from famous artists like Beato Angelico” up to “Gino Severini” (one of the founders of Futurism). For lovers of Archeology MAEC - Archaeological Museum of Cortona is a must-see, because there are very interesting Etruscan objects preserved there. Some of them include the ‘chandelier’ and the ‘jewels of the Princess’.To Cortona by train;
Cortona is on a slow railway line between Florence and Rome, and is served by trains from both cities. The railway station is called Camucia-Cortona, and is located at the foot of the hill on which Cortona is sited. Buses run from the railway station up to Piazza Garibaldi, by the city walls; tickets can be bought at the adjacent bar. If you just miss a bus at the station, more frequent services pass by the crossroads a short distance uphill. If you are travelling from a nearby town, like Arezzo, you may find it more convenient to take a bus between the towns.

was “incredible” and will be wonderful memories to share with others
for a very long time. I can not stop talking about our trip! I’m
telling just about every person i have spoken with upon our return,
this has been the “best” vacation we have ever had and that La mucchia
is the most “beautiful” place and all about you, Uri, Zeev and Iliana.
We will definitely return for many years to come. Thank you again for
spending time with us, for taking us places and being accommodating in
many ways. Also for the lovely painting….we are trying to decide on
which room to hang it in…it’s very special!
We miss y’all (this is a word we use in the South) already!

I went to Cortona to spend my birthday La Mucchia was indeed
the perfect place, I even received from Giorgio a birthday
cake that morning HOW LOVELY!!!
The House is very comfortable, cosy, charming, it is quite
and safe. The BEST is the way Giorgio and Zeev (the owners)
treat you, as soon as we arrived we felt part of their family.
They took care of us, giving us the best advices of what to do,
places to visit, providing maps, suggestions of restaurants. If
you follow their advices, you will have an unforgettable Tuscan
Experience as we did.
Wonderful Experience!!!!
Marisa and Romy, Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 2009
We have travelled the world, staying in all types of accommodations,
& this has to rate as among if not THE best on so many levels.
Having great weather of course helped, & beauty indoors & out
was stunning. The owners call the place an art gallery as well,
with paintings of local scenery hanging in every room–as gorgeous
as the gardens around the house and the Tuscan landscape in all
directions. Cortona lies on the nearby mountain behind, and all
of the Tuscan highlights & some beyond are within easy driving
distance (i.e., Arezzo, Montepulciano, Assisi, Siena, Pienza,
Monteriggioni). Brothers Uri & Zeev are adorably helpful, & were
in fact inspired to buy & fix up this converted farmhouse by the
movie Under the Tuscan Sun. If you liked that movie you will we
wowed by this place, the loving care behind it & the Tuscan sites,
history & scenery all around. Only one caveat: get as clear
directions as possible from the owners before trying to find it!

Our 5 day stay at La Mucchia Casa Vacanza was amazing. The Farmhouse
sits near the city of Cortona, with breathtaking views. Our suite
was very large and lavish and well furnished, we had a Bathroom
in every Bedroom. The view from the room was incredible and we
spent lots of time gazing out on Cortona and farms in the distance.
The owners where great and helped us plan our days, made us feel
comfortable, and spoke great English. The Farmhouse facilities
where incredible and very well accommodating.
We had a blast walking to a quiet vineyard high on the hill.
We sat had a picnic, enjoying the view, and the warm sun.

It is more beautiful then the picture in the site. You can tell
that they restored the building with lots of love. The location is
great right in the canter highly recommend listening to uri and
Zeev (the owners) about the area, trips, resultants (Paolo) etc.
it will make your life much nicer.
It was a great vacation and i will be back!

Two weeks ago I stayed in La Mucchia casa vacanze in Cortona, for
visitors looking for accommodation in this area, I say: what the
photos on their website shows, in reality it is much more!!!

A great place with a beautiful surrounding, wonderful staff and we
will be back.

It was wonderful 2 weeks in casa vacanza. Nice hospitality excellent
apartment and panorama .we love Cortona, we travel all over Tuscany
and we will come again. Arrivederci

We expected much from this visit, but we were surprised to find how
much more the location improved our stay. La Mucchia is perfectly
located for day trips in most of Tuscany and much of Umbria, so it
was easy to visit Florence, Perugia, Siena and numerous smaller
charming towns.
Location was our main criteria to decide where to stay, but only
once we got there we realized what a bargain we had - the place
is AMAZING! It was recently renovated using the local material
and methods, and you feel like a part of history (yet with all
the nice things that come with modern times…). We were charmed
by the furniture, the large spaces, the view and the overall design
as well as the lovely service. We’re sure to come back for more!

Vini, vidi, vinci ! Enjoyable vacation and great hospitality

A wonderful experience! I would highly recommend La Mucchia-Casa
Vacanza if you want to get away, relax and experience authentic
Italian living. It was wonderful to have independence and cook
our own food that we got at the local markets.
We felt like we had a home in Tuscany. The apartment had
everything we needed, will definitely come again.
Malibu, California, USA. October 2008
Great place, great service and great location. We were there
for a week. The rooms were very comfortable. We also rented a
car so it was very easy to travel in the area.

It is the best hotel in Tuscany, classis tuscan style.it has
great view of the area, mostly of cortona. The hotel is located
next to Cortona, not far away from Siena, Arezzo, lago trsimeno,
Perugia and more great places…also near to big outlet
village… The owners are lovely people, gave us great
recommendations of places and restaurants in the area. I am
planning to come back soon… very soon…

What I liked the best were the paintings on the walls,
each apartment is a mini gallery with original oil paintings
of Tuscany views, and in this medieval farmhouse, it all
looks so charming and in harmony. We had a great time, the
water in the swimming pool were cold but it is great swimming
pool very nice with large terrace around it to catch sun bath,
also a great barbecue, we backed some FIORENTINO steaks on that
and it was fantastic too. Our children also had good time play
badminton all day on the grass. Highly recommended place, it
is true that the owners asked me to write a review for them,
but anyway I was thinking alone to do it because this is the
way to thank them for such hospitality. Thanks.

My experience at La Mucchia was eccellente!!! I did not
imagine myself, looking at the photos at the official site;
it looked nice, but not as nice as in reality. The suite was
also amazing, feeling of going back in time, restored in a
magnificent way with full comfort. The owners, which also
run the place, gave us all the information needed for our
daily trips, maps tips and also made for us some reservations
at the museums. We highly recommend this place for people
looking for quiet countryside relax together with short daily
excursions to the various towns around.

My husband and I recently stayed in this renewed farmhouse
suites hotel in Cortona. We were not disappointed!
Although finding the drive in entrance might be difficult
if you do not know the area at all, the impression it makes
when you see it is worth it!
It is very funky in its interior Tuscan decor as well as its
interesting position!
The bedroom looks like taken from old world design, but with
excellent facilities in a double room: flat screen TV 32? with
Sky, heated towel rail in a spotless bathroom, very comfortable
bed, tea and coffee making facilities and complementary filtered
drinking water.
Any gripes? NOT AT ALL everything was perfect!!!
Excellent location and booked through this site, very reasonable
priced.

Bello, Bello, Bellissimo !!!
We just came back home, but still emotionally we are in Tuscany,
in this extraordinary resort, the farmhouse is old, very nicely
restored and beautiful rose garden and other kind of flowers are
covering the whole area, so nice, colorful and with harmony to
the countryside we stayed in. Cortona is near, Montepulciano,
pienza and Assisi, it is an advantage of being so near to Umbria,
about 15 min drive from lake Trasimeno and Casteglion del Lago
(I hope I wrote it correctly) The owners are very patience and
helpful, we will certainly recommend it to our friends and
relatives and hope to stay there once again next summer. Thank

I have been to Cortona in the past and enumerating what I enjoy
about the area would take a volume. Listening to the bells in
the evening, the swifts, the surrounding olive grove, the wild
arugula, the view was magnificent and the location for day trips
was very convenient.
The wonderful caretakers (I speak some Italian so this was not a
difficulty for my group), the proximity of Cortona, I wish I could
stay there again soon. It was a magnificent experience and I thank
you for your services. Cortona is within walking distance; it is
practically straight up hill and a couple of miles. Someone in
great aerobic health could manage it. It was a great vacation
and a great home. Thank you

Fantastica!!! una casa excelentemente restaurada con siete
apartamentos preciosos decorados al estilo toscano. Situada

We are looking forward to reading your hotel review on trivago. Thank you!

As a concept, our aspirations –which will further be mentioned in the formal statement of the vision and mission of our company-: great care in projecting our future, constant effort towards progressive evolution and seeking a distinguished leading position within our market, all these aspirations we share with other organizations.
Good for us all in this sharing of noble purposes and efforts! We may not all occupy that first desired dignified place, of course, since being first and pure means being strict and exact and can only accept one. (Furthermore, and with conviction, we assume that the place is still empty, due to its particularities).
Having said this, we do position ourselves in a certainly privileged place because it is you who, everyday, appreciatively perceives the best qualities: common sense and sense of humor, our two most faithful tools.
Common sense to intervene, cautiously, in those specific circumstances in which our professional knowledge on a certain subject reaches the limit of what we are humanly capable of learning, while your questions on the matter keep coming – and we expect it to be this way!-. And sense of humor, required grace in case common sense should, for some unforeseen disventure, abandon us.

Are you always in a hurry? Is every moment a race against the clock?
Do you yearn to slow down?
Carl Honoré, author of the global bestseller In Praise of Slow, will show you how when he leads the first-ever Slow Retreat in Italy.
This is so much more than just a holiday in the land of la dolce vita. It’s a chance to explore and experience the ideas behind the book that defined the international Slow Movement with the author himself. A chance to reconnect with your inner tortoise, reset your metronome and reinvent your life.
Carl is the natural choice to lead the Slow Retreat. He speaks to audiences around the world about the benefits of deceleration and tracks how people everywhere are putting the Slow creed into practice. Newsweek called him “an international spokesman for the concept of leisure.” ABC News christened him “the unofficial godfather of a growing cultural shift toward slowing down.”
Carl will lead a week of workshops, talks, debates and activities that will show you how slowing down can help you work, play and live better in the modern world. Each day will be themed around a different building block of the Slow philosophy, with ideas brought to life through hands-on activities and experiences, from pilgrim walks and painting to Slow food and storytelling.
From the moment you surrender your mobile phone, you will feel the frenzy of our roadrunner world melt away. You will return home with a personal recipe for slowing down – and with the confidence and tools to make it work.
The Slow Retreat is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to relearn the lost art of shifting gears. A week of laughter, reflection, conversation, rest and pleasure. A week to lift spirits and change lives.
The venue is the beautiful and serene Pian di Cascina, a renovated 17th-century farmhouse set in 20 acres of farm and woodland in the rolling hills of Umbria. The autumn weather will be warm and mellow.
Hope to see you there….
